Sustainable Food Production

We are conscious that a critique often offered to ‘wilding’ is that it takes the land out of food production. Firstly, we have not met anyone within the nature recovery space who suggests we should be wilding highly productive arable land. However, it is clear that part of our contribution to a sustainable future is to adopt a climate conscious diet. For us, that means eating a predominantly plant-based diet, high quality meat and dairy as ‘treats’ and minimal packaging and food miles where possible. The land here has been used as a grass crop for livestock over the past 15 years, which is a type of land use which needs to be reduced in order to allow more space for nature and carbon sequestration.

Where are we now?

We are starting to explore sustainable sources of food production, which also minimise land use. These include market gardens, orchards, micro-greens, mushroom productions and aquaponics. We’re reaching out to fantastic resources in Wales e.g. Our Food 1200, and speaking with potential collaborators e.g. Green Up Farm.

What’s the next step?

We’re looking forward to visiting sites over the next year and learning more about what would be possible. This is an area that neither Tom or I have any experience in, so we’re particularly interested in collaborations. Reach out if this is your passion and we can help!
